Something very exciting is happening at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida today. If Florida holidays are on your agenda this year and you’re a fan of Woody and Buzz Lightyear, you can’t afford to miss out on a visit to the new Toy Story Land at Walt Disney World Resort. The Toy Story Land launch takes places today and is sure to be a hit with kids and adults alike. It’s the largest expansion in the history of the theme park, so it really is a big deal! Toy Story Land will be an 11-acre extension of Disney Hollywood Studios, and will be packed with Toy Story goodies for ‘Andy’s’ of all ages!
Inspired by the ‘Toy Story’ films (the first of which was released in 1995), this new land is packed with all your favourite characters from the films, like Woody, Buzz, Jessie and the rest of Andy’s toys. If you’re a fan of the film you’re going to have a great time at Toy Story Land, whether you’re 5 or 55.
Disney Hollywood Studios already has a Pixar themed area, ‘Pixar Place’, right next to the new Toy Story Land. Here you can wander around an area themed around Pixar Animation Studio’s campus in Emeryville, California. If you’re lucky, you might spot a performance by the six-foot tall animatronic Pixar desk lamp, taking place throughout the day.
When Toy Story Land opens it’s set to be a hit with all ages, with plenty of rides, games and attractions. Enter the gates and you’ll ‘shrink’ to the size of a toy, meeting all of Andy’s toys like Woody and Buzz. Start your adventure on the Slinky Dog Dash rollercoaster, assembled from Andy’s Mega Coaster Play Kit. It’s a thrilling ride that’s fun for all ages and sure to get you in the holiday spirit.
Alien Swirling Saucers is set to be one of Toy Story Land’s top attractions when the area opens later this year. Everyone will remember the cute little green aliens from the film, and in this ride you’ll follow them in your rocket ship, as ‘The Claw’ hovers ominously overhead.
If you’re looking for an activity the whole family can enjoy at the Toy Story Land launch, then Toy Story Mania! is guaranteed to please, however young or old you are. This new carnival game takes place in the familiar setting of Andy’s room from the Toy Story films. Here you can take aim at 4D objects using a variety of weapons like cream pies, baseballs and more. It’s very silly, and great fun!
With so many rides and games, not to mention the excitement of meeting Woody, Buzz and the gang, you’re going to need to stop off to rest and refuel on your visit to Toy Story Land. You’ll find plenty of refreshments in Disney Springs, if you’re leaving the area to enjoy dinner. In Toy Story Land itself, you can dine at Woody’s Lunch Box. Andy’s lunch box has been set on its side and you can order food from the walk-up window including burgers, hot dogs and old-fashioned soda floats for the kids (or adults).
One of Toy Story Land’s highlights is spotting all the characters from the Toy Story films. Keep an eye out for the Green Army Men, Tinkertoys and Cooties, wave hello to Jessie, Buzz and Woody and see if you can spot Rexx, Hamm and Little Bo Peep on your adventures!
Disney are making some changes to the park’s opening times in preparation for the crowds expected to flock to Toy Story Land this summer. For a limited time only, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be open from 8am until 10.30pm every day from 1st July 2018, giving you more time to see everything that Toy Story Land has to offer. Disney’s Hollywood Studios are also offering Walt Disney World Resort guests extra magic hours at 7am and one evening each week.
The popularity of Toy Story and the peak summer season means things are going to get pretty busy at the Toy Story Land launch this summer. Luckily, there is a way you can avoid queueing all day for your favourite rides and attractions. If you book a Walt Disney World hotel, you can make Fastpass+ reservations at all Toy Story Land attractions up to 60 days before you check in. This means it’s easy to plan your holiday in advance and ensure the kids don’t miss out on any of the rides and attractions when things get busy.
If you haven’t got a reservation at a Walt Disney World hotel, don’t worry: it’s still possible to book Fastpass+ for Toy Story Land’s opening up to 30 days in advance, giving you plenty of time to organise your holiday itinerary.
At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, you can already check out attractions such as the Rock n’ Roller Coaster, The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, and live shows themed around classic Disney films. There’s a new Star Wars themed attraction, Galaxy’s Edge, opening in 2019, and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railroad set to launch soon too. There’s plenty of choice on offer when it comes to drinking and dining too. Why not book a Galactic Tasting and Viewing Package at Star Wars: Galactic Nights or take the kids for an ice cream sundae at the 50s Prime Time Café? With all of these fabulous upcoming attractions, we’re pretty sure you’ll be making a trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios more than once!
