The Sunshine State of Florida is, without a doubt, one of the most popular American holiday destinations. Whether you’re treating the family to a summer of fun or seeking out some of the best outdoor adventures, Florida holidays are bound to please everyone. The state also has a lot of interesting history, particularly Native American culture and heritage.
Florida has become so popular with its visitors that they tend to return more than once. Normally temperatures inland are higher than at the coast, except occasionally during the winter. Summer temperatures average about 27°C although they can peak at around 35°C while during the winter the averages drop to a comfortable 20°C in the south and around 12°C in the north.
Language: English is the official language and in Native American resorts you’ll also hear Creek and Miccosukee. About 20% of Floridians speak Spanish.

Fly To: Orlando International Airport in Central Florida for easy access to the city and local attractions. Other airports require internal transfers by plane, train or bus.

For culture vultures: Florida has lots of concerts, including blues and jazz festivals as well as arts and entertainment extravaganzas across the state.
For foodies: Mouth-watering food can be found at the various seafood festivals that take place on both coastlines. Meanwhile, the chefs at the Delray Beach Bacon and Bourbon Fest produce amazing dishes, including bacon flavoured ice cream.
For sports fans: The International Horse Trials are fascinating to watch, as indeed are the dog surfing competitions. Carnival events include fun features such as golf or domino tournaments.
Temperature: During the summer months temperatures can soar as high as 35°C depending on your location with inlandareas generally warmer than ones on the coast.
Best time to visit Florida: If you’re a lover of hot temperatures and don’t mind the humidity, visiting Florida between May and September is right for you. If you prefer weather that’s more pleasant, you’ll find that March to May and October to November are cooler.
By Train: Florida’s mainline trains run to either New York City or Washington D.C. The Amtrak Auto Train carries vehicles as well as passengers. Meanwhile, Amtrak Silver Meteor and Silver Star run from Miami to The Big Apple. In both cases, you can stop off at a variety of Florida cities in between.
By Taxi: Taxicabs run a shuttle service between the airport and the city of Orlando and from the main resorts to the theme parks. Take care to use only metered cabs to avoid taxi scams.
By Hire Car: The options for cheap rental cars in Orlando are good and you can pick one up at the airport if you wish or even from your resort if you want a few days away to explore.
By Bus: The I-Ride Trolley is cheap as chips and will take you around the International Drive area in Orlando. Alternatively, the shuttle services mean you can share a 15-seater van with other passengers.
